The following is the Election Results in Mississippi from 1948. You will notice that the States Rights Democratic Party (Third Party) Won the State Of Mississippi by a massive measure because Mississippians were tired of seeing Washington D.C. try and Force Integration on our State. Citizens were outraged and supported the States Rights Democratic Party (Dixiecrats) because they were for States Rights! Strom Thurmond ended up getting 87.17% of the Popular Vote and the Message was sent to the Federal Government to leave us alone! Check Out The Election Map Below!

States Rights Democratic Party Strom Thurmond { Popular Vote = 167,538 (87.17%) Electoral Vote 9 }

Democratic Party Harry Truman { Popular Vote = 19,384 (10.09%) Electoral Vote = None }

Republican Party Thomas Dewey { Popular Vote = 5,043 (2.62%) Electoral Vote = None }

Progressive Party Henry Wallace { Popular Vote = 225 (0.12%) Electoral Votes = None }

    That’s the Voters, who were all ”
    Whites”. How would the percentage have been if the Stte’s 40% Black population had voted?

    Thanks for your comment. John McCain won the State of Mississippi by a large number. I would say that Strom Thurman would have still won the State of Mississippi because he was the most Conservative candidate.
